 Is EAP counseling confidential

EAP counseling is strictly confidential unless the individual signs a release of information or is dangerous to self or others. Counselors are required by law to report child or elder abuse they become aware of. EAP records are not a part of any Novant electronic medical records system.

 Who is eligible for EAP services

Novant Health provides EAP to its employees and immediate household members. Immediate family can also include the person who is involved with the employee in an intimate relationship.

 What are the qualifications of counselors

All EAP counselors are, at a minimum, Masters level trained professionals. Our counselors come from a variety of backgrounds and training specialties.

 What hours are you open

Hours of operation vary based on the office you would like to use and the day of the week. Our regular work hours are Monday-Friday 8:30 to 5:00. There are days when earlier and later appointments are available. To schedule an appointment please call during regular work hours. For emergencies there is a counselor on call 24/7.

 What is the cost for the service? Do I need to bring my insurance card

EAP services are free of charge to you and your immediate household members. It’s part of your benefit for being a Novant employee. There’s no need to bring your insurance card.

 Give me some information about your services

EAP does short-term solution-focused counseling for a number of issues such as depression, anxiety, stress management, marital or relationship problems, domestic violence, parenting and family problems, alcohol and substance abuse or grief and loss. EAP offers services to Novant employees and leaders to assist with crisis response, change, team building, and mediation.

 What do I need to bring to my appointment

For the initial appointment you will need to complete our intake form which takes about 5 minutes to complete. If you like, we can fax or email the paperwork ahead of time. We will also provide you with HIPAA information.

 I've never called here before. What number do I call and what do I need to do to set up a counseling appointment

The EAP phone number is (800)828-2778. The scheduler will need to ask your name, what facility you work for, and what daytime phone number is best for getting in touch with you in case we need to reschedule an appointment.

 I have never been to counseling before. What is it like

EAP counseling involves sitting with the counselor and talking about the issues that concern you. The counselor will often lead the discussion in directions that help get to the root of what is occurring. Many times you will leave with strategies to assist you in resolving the issue.

 How long is a session

Typical sessions are 50 minutes to an hour. Sessions for couples or 2 people are usually 75 to 90 minutes.
