Depression

Depression affects almost 7 million Americans over 18 in any given year. Depression is a broad term that can run from mild to severe. Depression can be a stand alone problem or be a component of other medical issues. There is not a depression “test” like there is for other health issues like diabetes. It is most often diagnosed through questions about how a person is feeling and how life is impacted. Professionals look at changes in things like sleeping, eating, functioning, sadness, etc. Symptoms usually need to be present for a period of time. Depression can look different in women and men.
